Major is now hitting the road with his new owner.
Nothing makes an animal shelter happier than when a pet is adopted, especially if the animal has been at the shelter for a while. Major the dog, who spent a year at a shelter after being saved from being put down, finally experienced that day, and it was truly cause for joy.
Major and his brother Hilo were saved from animal control in Quincy, Illinois, according to ABC Chicago. They were apparently in danger of being put to death, but the Naperville Area Humane Society happily saved them.
But after being housed by the shelter, both canines had trouble finding new owners. After a year, nobody showed any interest in adopting. Major was characterized by the humane society as active, vivacious, and treat-motivated; nevertheless, they advised against placing him in a household with small children, cats, or other dogs.
The shelter believed there could still be a place for Major to live despite the odds. They even gave him the name of a holiday, “Major’s Day,” and used it as an opportunity to highlight their long-running shelter pets that still need to find homes.
However, the Naperville Area Humane Society recently announced wonderful news: Major has been adopted, 372 days after arriving at the shelter! The video captures the adorable canine saying goodbye to each member of the shelter employees as they line up outside to say their goodbyes to Major.
As the film comes to a close, Major is seen leaving the animal shelter with his new owner, a semi-truck driver. Major climbs into the truck and embarks on a brand-new journey that will take him throughout the entire nation.
In their statement, NAHS stated that they “couldn’t be more excited to celebrate another long-term resident walking out the doors.”
“We look forward to seeing where the road leads you, Major.”
