Ariana Grande’s 98-Year-Old Grandma Sets Record as Oldest Artist on Billboard’s Hot 100

Ariana Grande’s grandma, Marjorie Grande, just made music history. She’s 98 years old and became the oldest artist to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This happened because her granddaughter’s new song “ordinary things” reached No. 55 on the chart. Marjorie helped write and sing on the track.

The song is part of Ariana’s latest album, Eternal Sunshine, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Marjorie broke the record previously held by Fred Stobaugh, who was 96 when his song “Oh Sweet Lorraine” made it to No. 42 in 2013. Another older artist on the list is Tony Bennett, whose song “Body and Soul” reached No. 87 in 2011 when he was 85.

In “ordinary things,” Marjorie talks about her late husband, Frank Grande, sharing memories and advice.

Ariana mentioned in an interview that she found a voice recording of her grandma talking, which inspired her to end the song and the album with it.

Marjorie’s voice can also be heard on Ariana’s previous albums, though she wasn’t credited.

Ariana’s song “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” also reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, along with her previous single “Yes, And?” before her latest album came out.
