“Lightning came out of the sky without warning”
A tragic incident unfolded in Texas as a father lost his life and his teenage son suffered severe injuries after being struck by lightning while walking home from a bus stop.
34-year-old Matthew Boggs from Valley Mills, was accompanied by his 2 sons, Grayson and Elijah, as they walked down their driveway on Monday evening. Without warning, a sudden lightning bolt descended from the sky, as shared in a GoFundMe campaign initiated by a family member. Grayson, who is only 6 years old, was holding his father’s hand at the moment of the lightning strike.
The details surrounding the incident are devastating, and the family is grappling with the loss of Matthew and the serious injuries Grayson sustained. The incident has left them in a state of profound grief and shock.
Matthew’s mother, Angela Boggs, recounted the distressing final moments between father and son. She shared that Matthew expressed his love to Grayson just moments before the lightning struck. The impact left both victims unresponsive by the time emergency responders arrived at the scene. While Grayson was found to be “unresponsive, but breathing,” he was swiftly taken to a local hospital. Tragically, Matthew was pronounced dead at the scene.
Currently, Grayson is in critical condition and fighting for his life, according to updates on the GoFundMe page and KWTX news. The young boy has experienced multiple seizures following the incident and has been placed on a ventilator to aid his breathing. An MRI conducted on Thursday revealed damage to Grayson’s frontal lobe and optic nerve.
The family received uncertain news about Grayson’s recovery as medical professionals informed them that they would have to wait until sedating medications could be reduced to determine if he would wake up. The situation remains filled with unknowns, but the family continues to hold onto their faith, believing that God is working to heal their beloved boy, as shared in the recent update by a family member.
