The strange incident took place on May 20, the eve of China’s unofficial “Valentine’s Day.” As far as is known, a flurry of emotions was caused by the reluctance of the boyfriend to give his girlfriend a new smartphone. Surveillance footage and mobile clips filmed by passers-by from the street in Dazhou City show the boy obediently standing still while the girl scolds and slaps him on the cheeks.
“The police officers then tried to take the couple to the police station, but the man, fearing that his girlfriend would get in trouble, did not let them pick her up,” Asia One reported.
A police investigation found that the man received at least 52 slaps. It turned out that the woman who financially supported her boyfriend for a long time became angry when he did not thank her for buying her a mobile phone.
“Realizing that he was wrong, he allowed her to vent her anger,” Asia One reports. However, the couple reportedly vowed not to make any more scenes in public.
