Jimmy Stewart’s Touching Dog Poem Moves Johnny Carson – Featured Highlight

Jimmy Stewart was a famous actor who made movies like ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ and ‘The Philadelphia Story’ for many years. He had a special way of speaking and played characters that people could really relate to.

Not everyone knows that Jimmy Stewart was also good at writing poems. One time, he was a guest on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1981. During the show, Jimmy asked if he could read a poem he wrote about his dog, Beau.

At first, the poem was funny, and everyone in the audience, including Johnny Carson, laughed a lot. But then, the poem changed and became more serious as Jimmy talked about his golden retriever, Beau. Johnny Carson even got emotional and started to cry.

“On the evening walks, and Gloria took him,
He was always first out the door.
The Old One and I brought up the rear
Because our bones were sore.”

And there are nights when I think I feel that stare
And I reach out my hand to stroke his hair,
But he’s not there.
Oh, how I wish that wasn’t so,
I’ll always love a dog named Beau.
