This unusual bridge connects Denmark and Sweden and can turn into a tunnel underwater

This one-of-a-kind construction begins in Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital, and extends all the way to Malmö, Sweden. On July 1, 2000, the remarkable Oresund Bridge, created by architect George K. Rotn, was inaugurated. This construction resembles a bridge for the first eight kilometers before entering an underwater tunnel on an artificial island.

The tunnel was built to avoid interfering with airplanes arriving at the neighboring Kastrup airport and to allow ships free passage.
