For a whole ten years, only his countrymen, the inhabitants of the Basque Country, knew about Andoni Bastarric’s talent, for whose entertainment he made his sand sculptures. And then someone posted a few photos on the Reddit portal and fame covered him. To be frank, it is well-deserved, because works of this level are rare.
Initially, Bastarrika simply sculpted large figures out of sand, amusing children. But he soon realized that he was more interested in it than he expected. The man discovered in himself the talent of an artist, a creator, and began to invent new methods of working with sand, to study material and art. He grew above himself and was inspired by new works. Ten years is a long time, but Andoni’s achievements are visible to the naked eye. However, he is very modest and does not seek fame, in particular, he is in no hurry to participate in official sand sculpture competitions.
Only recently, when photos of his works began to be reposted on social networks, the sculptor began to work with people, in particular, to conduct master classes in sand modeling. The main tool is your own hands, which do 99% of the work. You can stop here, formally the sculpture is ready, but here the secret is hidden. In the next stage, Bastarrika starts adding a second layer of realism, and here toothpicks, brushes, and other small tools can already come in handy.
