Chevel Shepherd, who is 16 years old, grew up in a small town called Farmington, New Mexico. Despite being only 4 feet 10 inches tall, she has a really powerful voice. People were amazed when she auditioned for Season 15 of The Voice.
For her audition, Chevel sang a song by The Band Perry that was popular in 2010. She was nervous at first, but her talent was clear. Kelly Clarkson, one of the judges, turned her chair around early in the song because she was impressed.
As Chevel gained confidence and her voice got stronger, another judge, Blake Shelton, wanted her on his team too. Jennifer Hudson was also impressed and turned her chair around. Only Adam Levine didn’t turn his chair.
After her audition, the judges praised Chevel. Kelly Clarkson said she’d like to work with her and even compared her voice to Dolly Parton’s. Jennifer Hudson called her voice “pure and beautiful,” and Blake Shelton predicted that she would grow a lot on the show.
Chevel eventually chose Kelly Clarkson as her mentor, and she went on to win the season. She said her time on The Voice was crazy but amazing. Not many teenagers get to sing on national television and be mentored by famous artists like Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, and Thomas Rhett. It was a life-changing experience for her.
