In Lithuania, volunteers rescued 11 dogs who lived in terrible conditions and ate only bread

A letter was sent to the email address of one of the Lithuanian animal shelters. People reported that there was an elderly woman living next door who had many dogs. The letter said that the animals were very emaciated since the owner probably had nothing to feed them.

The staff of the shelter arrived at the indicated address. What they saw shocked them. There were 11 dogs in a small room!

At first, the owner was surprised by the unexpected visit, but when she saw how greedily the animals pounced on the food brought by the volunteers, she burst into tears and shared her story.

The woman said that the dogs belonged to her husband. He loved them and took good care of the pets. When the man died, she was unable to accommodate the animals. A hand was not raised to drive them out into the street, but the woman could not take care of them properly either. In the meantime, dogs had puppies, and the owner finally ceased to control the situation.

The dogs ate only stale bread and did not go out into the fresh air. Further, it turned out that there was no heating in the house, because of which the owner and her wards suffered greatly from the cold in winter. The woman explained that she used to live in a city apartment with all the conditions, but because of the large number of dogs, she was forced to move.

Volunteers decided not only to take the dogs to the shelter but also to help their owner return to the city. First, the most weakened animals went to a temporary shelter. After a while, the rest moved to the shelter. And up to this point, volunteers regularly visited future wards and brought them food.

The situation is currently improving. Animals have almost gained weight corresponding to the age norm. Some even managed to find new owners. The rest also have every chance to find a family.

Of course, there are also problems. Several puppies have suffered greatly from harsh living conditions and are very afraid of people. This circumstance does not allow them to start looking for a new home. A zoopsychologist is currently working with these animals.

The shelter staff is confident that everything will be fine and promise to take care of the animals for as long as necessary.
