Lily Gladstone is taking advice from an experienced actress to help her through this year’s busy Oscar season.
In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, the 37-year-old star of “Killers of the Flower Moon” talks about her first Academy Award nomination for the Martin Scorsese film. She reveals that Cate Blanchett, a seasoned actress, gave her some tips for dealing with the hectic time leading up to the big night on March 10.
Blanchett suggested Gladstone should keep up with adaptogenic mushrooms during this period. Gladstone thinks it’s good advice and a simple self-care routine that she can follow. She was surprised by this advice from Blanchett, expecting something about acting techniques instead.
Gladstone has admired Blanchett since she was a teenager and remembers feeling disappointed when Blanchett didn’t win an Oscar in 1999. Despite this, Blanchett has been kind to Gladstone as she finds her own success in Hollywood.
Besides following Blanchett’s advice, Gladstone plans to carry some lucky charms in her purse on Oscars night to help with nerves. She will bring a coin given to her by U.S. Secretary of the Interior Debra Haaland, whom she met after winning a Golden Globe in January. Haaland is the first Native American woman to serve as a cabinet secretary.
Gladstone will also bring quarters featuring Wilma Mankiller and Maria Tallchief, two Native American trailblazers. She wants to carry a piece of each of these inspiring women with her.
The 96th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be live on Sunday, March 10, from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, starting at 7 p.m. ET.
