We were told over the phone about a dog that had been whining all night in a ditch and couldn’t get up. It was discovered that this is a young dog, and the characteristics of a husky were guessed in the breed. I couldn’t figure out how the inhabitants slept comfortably all night despite the animal’s howling; there were residential buildings nearby, and their owners certainly have cars.
We took the puppy to the shelter after adopting it. The dog’s body was riddled with wounds, but the worst part was that the animal couldn’t stand on its hind legs. Nice, as we christened the dog, went to the vet the next day.
An x-ray revealed that the dog’s paws were unharmed, but there was a far more serious issue – two bullets in the spine.
Nice underwent a further CT scan and a medical consultation. We attempted to trust in the best and overcome our fear while we awaited the results.
Doctors virtually uniformly agreed that Nice would not be able to walk. It was decided to operate on the dog and remove the bullets, and then to chose to live with Kasya, who is paralyzed but enjoys every day.
The vets discovered more issues during the procedure. A tumor was discovered in Nice’s genitourinary system, which managed to metastasize.
We did not restrain Nice, condemning him to misery and torment. It’s awful that he had to go through so much in his life; each such situation inflicts an enormous amount of anguish on us.
I didn’t get to write about Nice for several days; he was a bright and lovely puppy, and he was quite memorable, despite the fact that he was only with us for a short period…
