In the late 50s, American Bandstand aired a dance where boys and girls make lines in front of each other. Then one member from each side meet in the middle and start to “stroll” down the line.
The song suitable for the Stroll was originally performed by The Diamonds in 1957. It became really popular and was in the top 5 of the Billboard pop charts. In the video below, you can watch a dance group from Idaho performing the original Stroll in 1958.
